Aang was an adventurous, free-spirited twelve-year-old male Air Nomad born in 12 BSC and the Avatar during the century-long conflict known as the Hundred Year War.

Before the Hundred Year War, twelve-year-old Aang travelled the world as a free-spirit and thrived on fun and adventure. However, one visit from the Monks changed everything for Aang. With the world on the brink of war, the Monks broke the custom of informing the next Avatar his role at age sixteen and instead revealed this info to Aang at the mere age of twelve. The Monks and the world needed the young Avatar to maintain balance between the nations.

Fearful of his duty to the world, Aang ran away from the Southern Air Temple with his flying bison Appa. During a dangerous storm, the young Avatar crashed into the ocean and was frozen in an iceberg for a hundred years. When Aang emerged, he was still biologically twelve-years-old, but the world had vastly changed and had been engulfed in war during his absence. When the Fire Nation waged war, their first attack was to annihilate the Air Nomads.

As the last Airbender, Aang became destined to save the world from the Fire Nation’s ruthless quest and master the other three elements. Although Aang struggled in his journey to ending the world, his close friends and predecessors helped him, and he managed to defeat the Fire Lord and end the Hundred Year War.

After the Hundred Year War, Aang and the newly appointed Fire Lord Zuko established the United Republic of Nations – a place where all benders and non-benders from every nation could live together peacefully – with the capital being Republic City. With the formation of the United Republic, Aang’s vision of creating a world where all benders and non-benders could live together peacefully came to fruition.

Before his death, Aang instructed the White Lotus to protect and watch over the next Avatar incarnation. Aang passed away at the age of sixty-six.
