Cheif Marketer recently interviewed Doug Clemmer, the executive vice president of kids, family and casual games for THQ. Read below:
Are the brands tied into promotions for the film—such as entertainment software firm THQ, maker of the "The Last Airbender" video game for Wii and Nintendo DS/Nintendo DSi, set to debut June 29— worried?

"We do not see any chal¬lenges from our perspective about referring to the property as 'The Last Airbender,'" says Doug Clemmer, executive vice president of kids, family and casual games for THQ, in an e-mail interview. "Between the property's loyal fan following and the communication put in place to effectively promote the name, there isn't any ques¬tion or doubt that this film is based on the popular series."

Promotion for the game will include social media—a dedicated Facebook page is in the works, and the video game will be integrated into other Paramount Pictures social media efforts as well. Trailers, screen shots and behind-the-scenes videos will also be released online. Marketing partners will include Random House, Simon & Schuster, Spinmaster and Embassy Suites.

"Cross-promotional efforts will include incorporating the video game into film partners' online, print, packaging and media initiatives, as well as teaming up with them at retail," says Clemmer, noting that sweepstakes will also be part of the campaign.

Is it a big challenge to translate a popular cartoon into a video game?

"Since animation and com¬ics are not physically interac¬tive experiences, it is incredi¬bly important that the essence of a brand is properly captured so that you're delivering a satisfying and engaging expe¬rience," says Clemmer

MUST READ: NEW OR EXPECTED PARTICIPANTS OF THE SEASON 1 “EPISODE-A-DAY”
Posted by The Masked Warrior
Leave a comment // (0) Comments

As of June 12 2010, the A: TLA community will meet together at AvatarDestinyPortal.com and participate in watching Season 1 –> Episode-A-Day for 20 days. From Saturday, June 12, we’ll post Chapter/Episode 1, The Boy in the Iceberg, followed by some in-depth discussion topics.

We’ll analyse the episode based on the following:

Memorable Quote (why so memorable, how it makes you feel about character etc.)

Memorable Scene (must-have in movie)

Mike and Bryan’s message (overall theme)

Shipping/Relationship progression (kataang, zutara etc.)

Character Analysis (let’s see how they changed from episode one)

Forgotten Scene (not memorable, but should have been.)

Random Sokka Moments (state jokes, actions, facial expressions etcetera)

Other comments in discussion welcome

How it’ll work:

In the last few weeks before the event starts, we’ll need to gather as many fans as possible to get involved. We wish for a big portion of the community to participate, but realize it’s impossible if you don’t participate too. How to spread the word? Check out these banners here.

To fans participating in the discussion:

  • From June 12th, we’ll begin with the first episode and watch for 30 minutes. You can watch this episode at any time of the day, it really doesn’t matter.

  • I, (Jun, Keisha, keishakatara, 99writtenwords – whatever you know me by) will host the discussion with the following fansites or community groups:     avatarthelastairbenderonline.com, avatalk, racebending.com, avatargt???

  • Any other fansites who’d like to help host are welcome to participate by contacting us here – I’ll respond within 24 hours.

  • You can start by taking out the five volumes of the Season 1 DVDs. If you don’t own copies of the episodes on DVDs – no worries! Simply, join the rest of us in watching the episodes online here.

  • Together we’ll reflect on the episode and discuss some of the interesting things you may have missed when watching this episode before. The post for the discussion will include my responses to all discussion topics – which will hopefully get you guys started.

To fansites or community groups involved in hosting:

  • Before or on the day of the event, you may post the discussion topics.

  • The admin or moderator’s own response to the discussion topics (doesn’t have to be intensely long) visible on his/her site/group. This will get members of community attracted to the event, and hopefully get them to participate. You may prepare responses to these topics from now. If you don’t want to give a response at all, don’t worry. Just challenge or pry an opinion out of your site members.

  • THE MAIN THING IS TO GET THE FANS INVOLVED

  • The core of the discussion will be held at AvatarDestinyPortal.com, though discussion may also be held on your site/forum/group as well. Whichever you believe is easier.

FAQs

What if I can’t participate in the discussions, every day? And is the discussion held at one time?
Can’t participate in the discussion every day – don’t worry. If anything you are always free to go back to the past discussion and post your opinions then.

The discussion for each episode is held throughout the day.

What if I don’t own all the episodes on DVDs or I can’t make it to the computer to watch the episodes online?
Don’t fret, if you’re fan…you know the episode. If you know the episode, than you can most certainly participate in the discussion. If you can’t make it to the computer on that specific day, feel free to check back on the discussion later and add your opinion then.

Do I have to contribute my own opinions for the discussion…or can I just comment on fan’s opinions?
Not wordy? That’s perfect. First of all, you don’t need to participate in the discussion, – though it’s a big part of the event- you’re always welcome to just watch the episode and say, “The was good,” in the tagboard or comments. Secondly, you may challenge opinions to your own, but keep it civil.

I’m having trouble posting a comment?
No worries. You can either send Jun an email: 99writtenwords@gmail.com and she’ll give recognition to your opinion in the post…or you can simply state your opinions in the tagboard. You can even post your opinion on a blog/website and send us the link to it. J We want your views on the episode!!!

If you're simply a fan participating in the event, tell me int he tagboard with "I'll be participating" or send me an email here: 99writtenwords@gmail.com. Thank You!
